In the heart of the Beigua UNESCO Global Geopark Park
In the Lerone Regional Forest, on the heights of Arenzano (GE) at about 420 meters above sea level, the small barracks called “Case Vaccà” have long been used as a garrison of the State Forestry Corps. With the changeover to the Beigua Park Authority, the buildings have been renovated for educational and fruition purposes.
The ornithological and environmental education Centre, inaugurated in 2005, is now a reference point for scientific researchers and enthusiasts of the many bird species that pass and nest in the “Beigua – Turchino” Special Protection Area of the Park.
The new Refuge “Case Vaccà” completes its offer even for hiking enthusiasts, as it is the starting point of a rich network of paths that, from Curlo, lead to Gava Pass and Alta Via dei Monti Liguri.
How to reach the hut and use it
It is possible to reach Curlo di Avenzano by car, just a few minutes from the Arenzano exit on the A 10 Genova – Ventimiglia motorway. Once left the toll booth, turn right towards Savona, after about 200 meters turn right onto via del Giappone, go straight for about 500 meters, then turn left into via Pecorara, following the signs for the Case Vaccà ornithological Centre. After about 2 km the road ends near the barrier at Curlo, where it will be possible to leave the car in a small parking lot. Continue on foot following the directions for the “Ornithological Centre” which you will reach in about 20 minutes. The Casa Vacca Refuge is in front of it.
On the first floor of the building there is the dormitory, consisting of 3 bedrooms with bunk beds (one of 3 and two of 4 beds), for a total of 11 beds, as well as two bathrooms. The kitchen is on the ground floor, which can be entered with the key in the dormitory entrance on the first floor.

It is necessary to fill in the Guest registration form, to communicate one’s presence to the public security authorities.
Prices and reservations
Each bed in the hut is available at a cost per night, including tourist tax, equal to:
- 15 € for adults;
- 10 € for children up to 12 years;
- 10 € per adults who are CAI, FIE, ANA, AGESCI members and sports or religious groups, that could enjoy the conditions reserved for their association, provided they have a valid membership card at their time of stay;
Using the box below you can check the available dates first, and then book both the arrival (from 12.00 p.m. onwards) and the departure dates (by 12.00 p.m.), paying by credit card or with you own account PayPal. It should be remarked that to use exclusively the structure, it is necessary to book all 11 beds, as a partial booking allows others to book the remaining beds available. In this case, you may have to share your stay with other people.
Dogs are allowed only on the first floor of the building, if you book all the beds in the chosen room or the whole hut. In any case, it is important to keep dogs on a leash near the building.

Using the box below, you can book online the hut, several months or a few minutes in advance. Upon booking, you will receive the access code on your e-mail; by dialling the code on the keypad, you can open the hut’s door at any time between 12 noon of the booked day and 12 noon of the following day, without need to collect the keys from the hut’s keeper, or to return them.
ATTENTION: as the code allows you to enter on the booked date anyway, wrong bookings cannot be changed or reimbursed!
